Barcelona

I am going to be totally honest; Barcelona was not a destination I had any particular interest to travel to, that was until I actually travelled there.  Wow, what a City! It was fantastic!! Me stood at the Harbour & at the foot of Las Ramblas   Barcelona is the capital city of the autonomous community of Catalonia in the Kingdom of Spain, as well as the country's second most populous municipality, with a population of 1.6 million within city limits. Its urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 4.7 million people, being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Madrid, the Ruhr area and Milan. It is the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea, located on the coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs, and bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola mountain range, the tallest peak of which is 512 metres high. We did have a pretty rubbish start to...

Tenerife

Image
In February, we decided we that enough was enough and with Winter blues lasting forever, we decided to book a last minute trip to Tenerife in the Canaries.  Tenerife is the largest and most populated island of the seven Canary Islands. It is also the most populated island of Spain, with a land area of 2,034.38 square kilometres and 898,680 inhabitants, 43 percent of the total population of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is the largest and most populous island of Macaronesia. We flew from our local airport which is Birmingham International Airport.  They have recently  said it is investing £100 million on improvements to its facilities and infrastructure, including hold-baggage screening, self-service check-in, surface access, additional car parking and air traffic control.  Additional parking was underway when we arrived, but pre-booking our parking space meant that we didn't have to worry about not finding anywhere to park.  Top tip: Car park 5...

Lanzarote

Next we travel to a resort called Costa Teguise, located in Lanzarote.    Lanzarote, one of the Canary islands off the coast of West Africa administered by Spain, is known for its year-round warm weather, beaches and volcanic landscape. Timanfaya National Park’s rocky landscape was created by volcanic eruptions in the 1730s. Cueva de los Verdes has caverns formed by an underground river of lava. East-coast resort Puerto del Carmen is home to whitewashed villas, beaches and dive centers. Costa Teguise, Lanzarote This was great and exactly what we needed as a family. Pool, sunshine and plenty of laughs along the way. Be sun safe and ensure you have plenty of sun lotion, being a windy Island, you may not notice how hot it is, until later that evening that is! Canary Islands are a year round destination, with a flying time of approx. 4 hours from the UK, it's great for all the family. Plenty of restaurants  & cafes to choose fro...

Canadian Rockies & Seattle - part 4

Image
So we started the next part of our journey by train from Vancouver to Seattle.   The train was a great way to sit back, relax and not have the hassle or restrictions of air travel.  The journey took 5 hours, and I would definitely recommend you do this on the day journey, so you can see the amazing views.  We were at 5pm leaving Vancouver & by the time the train got out of the City, you couldn't see much other than lights in the distance. Home to the famous Sleepless in Seattle movie with Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan & our home for the next 3 nights, we stayed with friends on the outskirts on the City in a small neighbourhood called Green Lake.  The first evening we went to a restaurant called Bitterroot BBQ.  The food was out of this world!  http://www.bitterrootbbq.com/menu/ Next came dinner at the Space Needle - SkyCity at the Needle Restaurant.  At 500 feet in the air & amazing views across the city, this place is a mus...
